ETS and MAXIMUS Join Forces to Provide School Districts With Items for Formative Assessments

PRINCETON, NJ and RESTON, VA--(Marketwire - July 14, 2010) -  Educational Testing Service and MAXIMUS, Inc. today have announced an agreement to provide the ETS Formative Assessment Item Bank as part of the MAXIMUS TIENET® system. The agreement provides those school districts that select the TIENET solution the additional option to choose from a comprehensive bank of test questions for creating custom district-wide and classroom-level assessments.

The ETS Formative Assessment Item Bank contains more than 62,000 high-quality items that measure English Language Arts (reading and writing) and mathematics standards for kindergarten through grade 12 and science standards for grades 3 through high school. The items are aligned to the standards of all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the ETS National Frameworks. ETS has designed the items in the bank to be used to create custom formative assessments, resulting in educators' ability to monitor and track student progress. Outcomes from the assessments furnish teachers, schools, and districts with valuable student data that can help guide and improve instruction.

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to join forces with MAXIMUS and provide our extensive collection of assessment items to more school districts," said ETS Associate Vice President for Business Development Robert Block. "The agreement blends the assessment development expertise of ETS with the curriculum, assessment, Response to Intervention (RTI) and special education software provided by MAXIMUS."

Endorsed by the Council of Administrators of Special Education, the TIENET special education case management system documents activities throughout the special education process, including pre-referral, eligibility and IEP development. TIENET's Web-based instructional management system helps educators navigate RTI initiatives and organize the instructional process to monitor student achievement of mandated educational standards.

Dr. Philip E. Geiger, Senior Vice President of the PreK-12 Education Practice at MAXIMUS, added, "The inclusion of the ETS Formative Assessment Item Bank as an option within our TIENET solution results in a more comprehensive system for our clients to monitor student progress."
