ETS and schoolBrains™ Join Forces to Provide School Districts With Items for Benchmark Assessments

PRINCETON, NJ--(Marketwire - Apr 21, 2011) - Educational Testing Service (ETS) and schoolBrains™ have announced an agreement to provide the ETS Formative Assessment Item Bank as part of the schoolBrains Testing & Performance Assessment.

Benchmark assessments are a must in today's educational environment with districts needing the ability to demonstrate student proficiency and target groups for special instruction in order to meet state and federal guidelines for success.

"schoolBrains testing systems are now preloaded with ETS's Item Bank, allowing users to create more effective assessments," schoolBrains president Robert Pemberton said. "Users can create a test in minutes and can analyze the results by standards and proficiency levels immediately after importing test results."

The ETS Formative Assessment Item Bank contains more than 64,000 high-quality items that measure English Language Arts (reading and writing) and mathematics proficiency for kindergarten through grade 12 and science proficiency for grades 3 through high school.

The ETS 2011 item bank development plans call for adding thousands of new items across the existing three content areas and adding social studies items for high school courses. In addition, ETS is in the process of translating some reading, mathematics and science items into Spanish.

The items have been reviewed against the standards of all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the ETS National Frameworks. The items in the bank also have been reviewed against the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and aligned where appropriate. ETS has designed the items in the bank to be used to create custom formative assessments, resulting in educators' ability to monitor and track student progress. Outcomes from the assessments furnish teachers, schools and districts with valuable student data that can help guide and improve instruction.

Through complete integration with the schoolBrains Student Information System, entire school communities are instantly informed of the latest results and initiatives. Key benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Quick access to items through the intuitive schoolBrains:TPA™ software suite

  • Advanced filtering tools that help users zero in on specific standards and question types

  • Ability to assess multiple skills by selecting multiple-choice, short-answer and open-response questions across difficulty levels and taxonomies

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to join forces with schoolBrains and provide our extensive collection of assessment items to more school districts," said ETS Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, K-12 Assessment Programs, George Powell. "The agreement blends the assessment development expertise of ETS with the customization and analysis functionality provided by schoolBrains."
