Etsy Selects Splunk: Managing Big Data to Keep Small Businesses Up and Running

Leader in "Supporting Small Creative Businesses" Expands Splunk® Use

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Nov 2, 2011) - Splunk Inc. (www.splunk.com), the leading provider of real-time operational intelligence, today announced that Etsy has expanded its use of Splunk® software to provide additional operational intelligence to better manage its business.

Headquartered in New York, Etsy is one of the world's leading e-commerce marketplaces, offering handmade items, vintage goods and supplies. Etsy provides entrepreneurs and small business owners with a platform on which to grow their businesses. Etsy has more than 11 million registered members in over 150 countries and more than 11 million listed items for sale.

Etsy is one of many global e-commerce retailers using Splunk to analyze web data to better understand how customers shop and to keep their websites running 24/7.

Etsy became a Splunk customer in 2007, initially monitoring and analyzing 5 gigabytes of data every day and gradually increasing the amount. Under the new agreement, Etsy will now use Splunk Enterprise™ to monitor, analyze and visualize up to 1 terabyte of data per day.

"With more than 25 million unique visitors and 1.1 billion page views per month, we generate vast quantities of machine data. Splunk has provided us a platform for surfacing trends, discovering anomalies and analyzing this data in conjunction with our other monitoring tools," said Marcus Barczak, senior operations engineer, Etsy. "Splunk has enabled us to easily consume and analyze a wide variety of log data. Having this data indexed and searchable has enabled us to rapidly build in-depth web performance analytic tools and has proven indispensible for ad-hoc troubleshooting across our infrastructure and applications."

"Etsy helps build relationships in a marketplace that connects producers and consumers. This resonates with us," said Vishal Rao, Splunk's vice president of North American sales. "Splunk strives to create software that real people want to use, and it's satisfying to have so many people at Etsy using it to keep their marketplace vibrant, dynamic and growing."
