SANTA ROSA, CA--(Marketwired - December 09, 2015) - Canine Companions for Independence® has begun a month-long campaign with PetSmart and Eukanuba Dog Foods, a subsidiary of Mars Petcare, to benefit the nonprofit's assistance dog program. During the month of December, Canine Companions, PetSmart and Eukanuba will highlight their partnership in select PetSmart stores to promote the donation of Eukanuba dog food. Eukanuba will deliver donated food to Canine Companions' six regional training centers across the country for assistance dogs in training.

"Pet owners can visit select PetSmart stores and learn how to support Canine Companions for Independence while they shop for their pets," states Canine Companions CEO Paul Mundell. "The campaign will help promote awareness around Canine Companions' mission to place highly skilled assistance dogs free of charge with people with disabilities."

For 40 years, Canine Companions for Independence has been enhancing the lives of people with disabilities by training and placing nearly 5,000 assistance dogs with program graduates, including 136 dogs with wounded military veterans and more than 1,200 dogs with children, entirely free of charge.

"We've seen firsthand the impact Canine Companions for Independence and its assistance dogs have made in the lives of people living with disabilities," said PetSmart's Lindsay Del Chiaro. "We're truly honored to partner with this organization to help provide more military veterans with access to much-needed assistance dogs."

The weekend of December 11-13, 2015, Canine Companions assistance dog teams and puppies will visit select PetSmart stores across the country to represent Canine Companions and provide an overview of the nonprofit's program. Under a joint endeavor PetSmart and Canine Companions for Independence support PetSmart for Patriots, which helps connect wounded military veterans with assistance dogs.
