Eve Adams, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs, Joins Royal Couple as They Honour Veterans at Ceremony

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 30, 2011) - Eve Adams, Member of Parliament for Mississauga–Brampton South and Parliamentary Secretary to the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, today participated with Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Right Honourable Stephen Harper in a wreath-laying ceremony to honour Canada's Veterans at the National War Memorial.

"As Canadians, we are thrilled that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose to recognize the great sacrifices and contributions made by our Veterans," said Ms. Adams. "His Royal Highness, as a member of the military, understands the dedication and selfless commitment these brave Canadian men and women have shown while serving our great nation."

Veterans in attendance during the ceremony represented the three arms of the Canadian Forces—Army, Navy and Air Force—and included Veterans from the Second World War through to peacekeeping operations. Also present were Canadian Forces members and their families, as well as Mabel Girouard of Bathurst, New Brunswick, who is the Royal Canadian Legion's Silver Cross Mother.

During the ceremony, His Royal Highness placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier while Her Royal Highness laid flowers. Ms. Adams then greeted the Royal Couple at a signing table, where they added their names to the Livre d'Or, which features the signatures of dignitaries who have paid their respects during commemorative ceremonies held at the National War Memorial. The guest book has also been signed by other members of the Royal Family, including Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales.

"It was an honour to escort Their Royal Highnesses and to be in the company of some of our country's truest heroes," said Ms. Adams. "Today, our nation expressed its gratitude to the men and women who served Canada with pride and distinction."
