Evidenzia Polices Copyright Violations With Tokutek Database Engine

TokuDB v5.2 Reins in Escalating Storage Costs and Extends Scalability and Performance to Workloads With Concurrent Inserts, Selects, and Deletes

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 27, 2012) - Strata 2012 Conference -- Tokutek, the leading innovator in high-performance and agile database storage engines, today announced that Evidenzia GmbH & Co. KG, a leader in online copyright surveillance, has upgraded to TokuDB® v5.2 in order to reduce select and insert times and rein in escalating disk I/O due to growing data volumes.

A finalist in the Strata 2012 Startup Showcase, Tokutek will be demonstrating its TokuDB storage engine for MySQL on Wednesday, Feb. 29, at the conference.

Evidenzia's powerful technology helps copyright owners protect their intellectual property by enabling them to trace and document illegal file sharing activities in P2P networks reliably. All data and documentation may then be used as evidence in court. Because Evidenzia ingests a large amount of logging information each hour, the data not only needs to be processed in parallel for instant reporting, but also has to be stored in case it is ever needed as evidence in a legal case. To meet these needs, Evidenzia logs IP addresses while also performing a connect to each peer. In the process, the software fetches data to match it to the copyrighted material for proof of copyright violation.

With TokuDB v5.2, Evidenzia can do all the inserts and selects in parallel and also delete deprecated data out of the same table without the need to use MySQL's "optimize table" function, which would block inserts and selects. In addition, TokuDB's superior compression proved invaluable to keeping the required disk space low.

"We had already enjoyed tremendous gains in select performance, disk space, and I/O efficiency with TokuDB v5.0," noted Bastian Axter, Director of Operations at Evidenzia. "Once we moved TokuDB v5.2 into production, we saw these advantages extend to a wider set of use cases, notably workloads with concurrent inserts, selects, and deletes. This enabled us to make TokuDB v5.2 our storage engine of choice across our entire MySQL deployment. Overall, by choosing TokuDB, we not only saved 70% in our storage requirements, but also dramatically cut the time to complete select statements, which went from executing in over an hour to just minutes."

About TokuDB 5.2
