Exalt Microwave System Provides Vital Support for New Mexico Firefighters Battling Blaze Near Los Alamos National Laboratory

Santa Ana Pueblo Links U.S. Forest Service Fire Command Center to Internet

CAMPBELL, CA--(Marketwire - Jul 1, 2011) - Exalt Communications today announced that one of its microwave backhaul systems is providing vital communications support to U.S. Forest Service firefighters battling blazes near Los Alamos, New Mexico. The Forest Service has established a fire command center at the Santa Ana Pueblo, a Native American community some 80 miles from Los Alamos, to oversee firefighting efforts in the area. It is using the Exalt system to connect the command center to the Pueblo's data center for Internet access to order supplies, schedule deliveries, and perform other vital functions as it directs crews against the fires threatening Los Alamos and other areas.

"When the Forest Service decided to establish a command center here at the Pueblo, they asked us to provide access to our Exalt microwave system to provide them with Internet access," said Stephen Smith, IT Director for Santa Ana Pueblo. "We connected their command center to the system, and it has been working flawlessly for them ever since."

The Exalt ExploreAir 18 GHz microwave backhaul system is configured to carry 300 megabits per second of Ethernet traffic and runs 2.5 miles between the fire command center and the Santa Ana Pueblo's administrative building. Exalt partner Access Technologies of Albuquerque, New Mexico deployed the system.
