Excel Heating and Cooling Owner Tom Banks Featured as "Consumer Good Guy" in Chicago Sun-Times

WOOD DALE, IL--(Marketwire - December 21, 2010) - Tom Banks, owner of Excel Heating and Cooling, was featured in a "happy consumer story" as a "Consumer Good Guy" in The Chicago Sun-Times column "The Fixer."

Judi Nelson of Elk Grove Village, Illinois wrote:

"During the hottest and most humid part of last summer, my 85-year-old mother's central air conditioner went on the fritz. Her only income is Social Security, and we were a little worried that the air conditioner might need to be replaced, which she most definitely could not afford. I contacted Senior Social Services of DuPage County to see if there might be any type of aid that could help her. They instructed me to get an estimate and we would go from there.

"So I contacted Excel Heating & Cooling of Wood Dale and explained that my mother couldn't afford major repairs and we just needed an estimate to determine if funding would be available. Later that day, the owner himself went to check on my mother's air conditioner. I was quite surprised when he phoned me after his visit and let me know that he had repaired her air conditioner. He said if he got paid that would be great, but if he didn't get paid that would be OK, too. He just couldn't leave her there to suffer in the heat.

"It is rare to find such compassion. His bill ended up being so low, my mother was able to pay without receiving any additional aid. Definitely, he's one of the good guys!"

Tom Banks replied, "On a busy and hot day, I ended up spending a wonderful half hour sharing stories in her backyard. She was a joy to talk to -- and very funny! There was no way I could leave her suffering in the heat. It's not about the money. It's about being good to the community."
