Exciting New OTC Blood Sampling Service Launched

LONDON, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - Feb. 23, 2012) - myrios, launched this month by Synergy Health Laboratory Services (SHLS), will give consumers access to simple, timely and accurate blood tests carried out by an accredited laboratory. There are fourteen tests available currently, including cholesterol, anaemia, vitamin deficiency and hepatitis.

Lorraine de Beer, sales manager for myrios, says: "Research shows that pharmacies are frequently the first stop for people wanting quick, convenient and professional healthcare advice rather than queuing up to make an appointment to see their GP. With myrios, pharmacists can also now offer their customers a further consultative service: at-home blood test kits."

Being able to do the tests at home is a convenient and easy, but it is also important for people who want confidentiality, for example if they want a test for syphilis or Hepatitis B and C and, with the diabetes test, there is no need to fast to get an accurate result as the test looks for HbA1c (as recommended by the World Health Organisation) to test for Type 2 diabetes.

She adds: "With myrios, customers take their own blood sample and receive an accurate, informative report back from us within seven working days. The entire process is carried out quickly and professionally from the comfort of the customer's own home and at their convenience. myrios does not offer a diagnostic process, but it will give an accurate indication of what condition the customer's results may be consistent with."

See YouTube video for a demonstration of how it works:

myrios is sold in single packs that enable customers to take a blood sample at home and then post it in a pre-paid package to the SHLS laboratories where fully qualified biomedical scientists test it and prepare a personalised laboratory report (as detailed as they do for GPs). The report is posted back to the customer within seven working days of the lab receiving the sample. myrios will inform the customer if it is felt that they should consult a health care professional and the report gives advice on where to obtain further information. myrios also has a dedicated helpline available for after sales support.

The instant diagnostics market (including pregnancy kits) is currently worth an estimated £10 million in the UK and there are no other products on the market currently that offer this level of professional analysis.

myrios is being launched with a significant marketing spend that includes advertising, PR, POS, in-store videos, webinars and further activities that will be announced during 2012. myrios is a pharmacy-led purchase and will only be available via pharmacies or on-line pharmacies.

Potential markets are: Consumers with certain symptoms who want to rule out (or confirm) health concerns (such as glandular fever, hypothyroidism, H.Pylori or coeliac disease) and the well being and lifestyle market - people who want to test for deficiencies/conditions (such as iron, Folic Acid and Vitamin D).
