Execs in Consumer Electronics, Mobile Phones, Automotive, Energy, Medical Systems Explore New Applications of MEMS

MEMS Executive Congress to Be Held November 4-5 in Del Mar, CA

PITTSBURGH, PA--(Marketwire - July 10, 2007) - At the annual MEMS Executive Congress, business leaders from Nintendo and Nokia will join automotive manufacturers Bosch and VTI, medical device manufacturers Debiotech and OMRON, and energy and environmental products manufacturers GE Sensing and EnOcean to explore new commercial applications of Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS). They will meet with MEMS manufacturers to exchange ideas and preview upcoming MEMS technology for game consoles, mobile phones, PC laptops, environmental monitoring, medical devices, energy harvesting, driver comfort and safety, and more.

"The MEMS Executive Congress provides a unique forum in which executives from companies at the forefront of using MEMS technology can sit side-by-side with executives making MEMS devices," said Karen Lightman, Managing Director, MEMS Industry Group. "For a Nintendo, BMW, Qualcomm or Nokia to sit on the same panels with a TI, InvenSense or ST Microelectronics, exchanging ideas on the next generation of MEMS devices, this offers an invaluable opportunity for cross-pollination among industry innovators."

Ms. Lightman also commented on the predicted growth of the MEMS industry: "As economies of scale make MEMS devices more affordable, they become increasingly attractive to manufacturers. Combining on-chip electronics and advanced sensor technology, MEMS offer performance benefits and a more flexible architecture over a traditional ASIC model. With analysts forecasting a market for MEMS devices of nearly $10 Billion by 2010(1), MEMS manufacturers are rolling out increasingly sophisticated MEMS products to meet the performance, size and volume requirements of their OEM customers."

This year's MEMS Executive Congress features panel discussions on consumer electronics, wireless technology, automotive safety and driver comfort, energy and environmental technology, and medical devices.

Sponsors of the event include EV Group, SÜSS MicroTec, Surface Technology Systems (STS), and Silicon Valley Technology Center (SVTC) -- all leaders in technologies that improve MEMS manufacturing.
