Exercise Addiction and More to Be Examined at Upcoming Female Athlete Conference

Dr. Kim Dennis of Timberline Knolls to Address the Correlation Between Eating Disorders, Exercise Addiction and Sports

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - June 17, 2015) - Kim Dennis, MD, CEDS, CEO and medical director of Timberline Knolls, the nation's leading residential treatment center for women and girls struggling with eating disorders, trauma, addiction, mood and co-occurring disorders, will present at the upcoming Female Athlete Conference: Strategies for Optimal Health and Performance, June 19-20, at Babson College in Wellesley, Mass.

"The goal is to address issues unique to the female athlete and to share best practices to keep female athletes healthy on and off the playing field. "Exercise: Addiction or Healthy Lifestyle Choice?" is the title of Dr. Dennis' presentation, which will highlight the differences between excessive exercise and a healthy lifestyle model incorporating exercise. Exploration of the effect of trauma and its potential relationship to excessive exercise will be included.

In addition, Dr. Dennis will address the neurobiology of addiction and reward pathways as a method of understanding the addictive component of exercise.

As part of Dr. Dennis' session, Caryn Honig, MEd, RD, LDN, from The Healthy Weigh in Texas will share her personal recovery story from an eating disorder and exercise addiction. She will also discuss the recovery process and her journey of becoming a dietitian specializing in eating disorders. Honig is a former Collegiate All-American tennis player at the University of Denver and inductee of the University of Denver Hall of Fame.
