EXFO Introduces Industry's First 40G/43G SONET/SDH and OTN Field-Testing Module

FTB-8140 Transport Blazer sets new standard with multi-layer 40G/43G field SONET/SDH and OTN commissioning and characterization testing in industry's most compact, portable test module

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 12, 2007) - EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (TSX:EXF)(NASDAQ:EXFO) announced today the introduction of the new FTB-8140 Transport Blazer SONET/SDH and OTN test module for high-speed networking applications at 40 Gbit/s and 43 Gbit/s. The FTB-8140 Transport Blazer ensures next-generation SONET/SDH and ROADM (reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer) network build-outs meet industry standards, as well as offer the service, quality and reliability necessary for network service providers (NSPs) to deploy high-premium voice, data and video services.

The FTB-8140 Transport Blazer test module provides advanced SONET/SDH and OTN (optical transport network) test functions in a single module to address the stringent demands of commissioning and troubleshooting 43 Gbit/s networks. An intuitive, feature-rich interface and OTN with ITU-T G.709 forward error correction (FEC) streamline testing of OC-768/STM-256 links without compromising on functionality. The FTB-8140 is also compatible with NRZ, ODB, DSPK, and DQPSK optical transmission protocols to address all field-testing needs while ensuring future scalability.

NSPs can extract the maximum value from their investment in the FTB-8140 Transport Blazer by leveraging EXFO's industry-leading FTB-400 Universal Test System, a PC-based, modular field-test platform offering the widest range of optical test modules. Key optical modules that can be combined with the FTB-8140 include EXFO's best-in-class chromatic dispersion (CD), polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and optical spectrum analyzer (OSA), as well as the market-leading FTB-7000 OTDR family, thus delivering a unique, portable solution addressing 40 Gbit/s testing requirements from the physical to the transmission layer.

In addition, the FTB-8140 Transport Blazer module can be matched with the recently introduced FTB-8130NGE Power Blazer to address DSn/PDH, SONET/SDH (155M to 40G), OTN (2.7G to 43G), and Ethernet (10M to 10GigE LAN/WAN) testing requirements in a single platform.
