EXFO Launches 10 Gigabit Ethernet Test Solution

New Packet Blazer tests 10 Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and provides complete Ethernet performance-assurance testing

EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ:EXFO)(TSX:EXF.SV) announced today the launch of the FTB-8510G Packet Blazer™ for testing 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) interfaces in optical networks.

With the increasing deployments of 10 GigE interfaces in the network core, service providers can now rely on EXFO's market-proven Packet Blazer to ensure quality of service (QoS) at such transmission rates. Test capabilities like packet-jitter, traffic generation and analysis, and RFC 2544 (a well-established testing methodology that includes throughput, latency and frame-loss measurements) are readily available to thoroughly test Ethernet-based, Internet Protocol networks.

As a result, service providers can rest assured that delay-sensitive applications, such as voice-over-IP (VoIP) and video-on-demand (VoD), will meet prescribed service level agreements (SLAs).

Using a flexible configuration, the new FTB-8510G Packet Blazer can characterize local and/or wide area network physical interfaces (LAN PHY and/or WAN PHY) with the same test module at all available wavelengths. All interfaces are field exchangeable and provide the suppleness to test any standard 10 Gigabit Ethernet access point in a network.

The FTB-8510G Packet Blazer, an interchangeable test module housed inside EXFO's world-class and widely deployed FTB-400 Universal Test System (UTS), is ideally suited for field, central office and carrier lab applications.

About the Packet Blazer

Offered as a test module inside the FTB-400 UTS, the Packet Blazer brings service-level agreement verification to Ethernet-based packet services. The Packet Blazer tests Ethernet connectivity in its native format for LAN-to-LAN services delivered via ATM, frame relay, next-generation SONET/SDH, switched Ethernet, VLANs, dark fiber, wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) or other means. The Packet Blazer also features EXFO's unique EtherBERT™ technology (patent pending) that provides bit-error-rate testing of Ethernet interfaces. This test solution is mostly used for WDM testing to assess quality of transmission.
