Exhibit on Canadian Engagement in Afghanistan to be on Display at the Frobisher Inn in Iqaluit

IQALUIT, NUNAVUT--(Marketwire - Aug. 11, 2009) - Afghanistan360, a multimedia exhibit on Canada's civilian and military engagement in Afghanistan will be on display at the Frobisher Inn in Iqaluit, Nunavut, from August 15th through to the 25th.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see the Afghanistan360 exhibit featuring stories from the field and short video segments on the training and development projects that Canada supports in Afghanistan. They will also be able to record 15-second video messages to our civilians and soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

The exhibit offers Canadians the opportunity to learn about progress in the six focused areas in which Canada is providing assistance in Afghanistan: training Afghan National Security Forces, assisting the Government of Afghanistan in providing basic services to its population, providing life-saving humanitarian assistance, enhancing border security, facilitating political reconciliation, and helping the Afghan government to increase the capacity for democratic governance and national institutions.

The exhibit also showcases Canada's three signature projects in Afghanistan-the rehabilitation of the second largest source of water for agricultural irrigation, the Dahla Dam, the rebuilding or construction of 50 schools in key districts of Kandahar province, and our effort, along with international health partners and other donor countries to work to eradicate polio from Afghanistan.

Accompanying the exhibit on August 22 near the Frobisher Inn will be a kiosk highlighting the Afghanistan Challenge. The Afghanistan Challenge is a new fund-matching initiative, for Canadians who wish to learn more about or personally help in the development and reconstruction effort in Afghanistan. By going online to, Canadians can make small-scale donations over the Internet and contribute to the development project of their choice, in the areas of education, entrepreneurship, or skills training.
