Exhibition-Benoit Desfosses: 100 years of hockey in Montreal

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 4, 2009) - The exhibition displays over 50 oil canvas paintings which represent the great historic of hockey in Quebec; 100 years of inheritance, 100 years of hockey, 100 years of passions!

I have been an artist for over 4 decades. In the beginning I only wanted to paint my idols; Maurice, Jean and Guy. However, it couldn't be that simple. Many great memories of Montreal, of Quebec, pictures and writings were imposing to my creativity. The history behind the Montreal Canadians and Quebec are closely linked and I chose to bring them to life through my paintings.

The productions are a combination of collages, pictures, painted hockey players, hockey references in conjunction with the history and my great passion towards this sport.

From the days of Newsy Lalonde to Patrick Roy; from the Empress of Ireland to the crisis of Ice Storm; all a part of life and a part of the hockey history.

Certainly 100 years of history did go through without ups and downs. It inspires me textures; witnesses of courage and determination. Arabesque motifs and stencil art reveal elegance, ability, continuality and success. When looking closely at the paintings you will find the omnipresence of newspaper articles. Media is a daily reminder of hockey and the impact it has in our lives. It reminds us of the great hockey history that is with us at all times not only in Montreal but across the province of Quebec and far beyond.
