Expensive Kerosene Requires Lighter Aircraft Seats

FRANKFURT A.M., GERMANY--(Marketwire - August 11, 2008) -

International IIR Forum "Aircraft Seating" 15th and 16th October 2008, Sofitel Hamburg Alter Wall

Frankfurt/Hamburg, August 2008. Aircraft seats have to be safe, comfortable, light and environmentally friendly. Fuel prices, fire resistance and the individual airline requirements are only some of the complex factors influencing seat concepts and specifications. In view of the technical and economic implications, the seat concept is an important issue of customer acquisition and loyalty. "The importance of aircraft seating as a revenue driver can only increase in the future. Design which delivers advantages for the carrier in terms of weight reduction and maintenance costs, and which provides a unique experience for the traveller, will be the key to success," said Ben Orson of the London consulting company JPA Design prior to the International IIR Forum "Aircraft Seating", which will take place in Hamburg on 15th and 16th October. Bill Archer of Delta Airlines will explain the selection criteria for aircraft seats and will also focus on in-flight entertainment. Klaus Brauer of Boeing will talk about transport costs, purchasing strategies and environmental awareness. The programme can be called up in the internet at:

Speakers of leading airlines and aircraft manufacturers will give practical examples from business and economy classes. JPA Design will be drawing on their recent experience of designing premium seating for the Airbus A380 of Singapore Airlines and the Boeing 777 of Japan Airlines. Examples of new seat concepts will also be given by Deutsche Lufthansa and Swiss International. Recaro will present a new development process. Further topics of the forum include materials and safety: on the one hand, new foams, upholsteries and leather applications will be presented while the influence of aesthetics and design on safety will be discussed on the other.
