Experts to Offer Real Estate Advice for Senior Citizens

Windsor Place of Wilmington to Host Free Workshop With Specialists From RE/MAX Encore

WILMINGTON, MA--(Marketwire - March 4, 2009) - Senior citizens thinking about selling their homes are invited to attend "Real Estate and Retirement in a Challenging Economy," an evening workshop with independent experts on March 17, 18 or 19 at Windsor Place of Wilmington. A Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES) (1) from RE/MAX Encore will provide advice on managing the financial and emotional aspects of selling the family home. Admission is free but advance registration is required. All sessions start at 6 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. To reserve your place, call 1-866-988-2330, extension 4, or visit

"Many seniors have an advantage compared to younger owners when it comes to selling their homes," said Patti Parker, Realtor®/Owner of RE/MAX Encore and a 30-year real estate veteran. "Many seniors commonly bought their homes decades ago, have paid off their mortgages, and often have more equity in their properties than younger sellers, giving them superior pricing flexibility." While she notes that the current market certainly is not as robust as in recent years, accurately priced, well-presented homes do sell. Parker added that "low mortgage interest rates and an $8,000 Federal tax credit for first-time home purchases are bringing out buyers." Parker will be joined by her son and business partner, Jonathan Parker, and RE/MAX Encore Senior Real Estate Specialist, Carol McDonald.

Seniors who attend "Real Estate and Retirement in a Challenging Economy" will learn about:

-- The Senior Advantage in real estate
-- Successful pricing strategies
-- Maximizing your home's appeal
-- Discussing the decision to sell with family members
-- Determining if assisted living is right for you

All attendees will receive a complimentary home seller's resource guide.

"The RE/MAX Encore team will show seniors that they need not feel trapped in their home because of the down real estate market. Those who wish to trade in home maintenance and the associated expenses for an independent, assisted living lifestyle may be in a better position to do so than they know," said Dennis Sargent, developer and manager of Windsor Place of Wilmington.
