BACKGROUND:

The documentary "The End of Immigration?" is produced by Lucie Pageau, from Productions Multi-Monde. In their documentary, the film makers, Boti and Guy, unearth the impact of having temporary foreign workers employed in virtually every sector of the Canadian economy and the disparities between migrant workers programs of the 21st century compared to the means under which the Canadian landscape was created through a different system of immigration in the 20th century.

Through careful examination and real life examples from first-hand accounts of migrant workers in Canada, the film allows viewers to gain a newfound perspective on why the number of temporary residents in Canada is currently exceeding the number of immigrants who are being allotted permanent status in the country and how the immigration system and programs of today are creating a system of "rental workers" to meet the long-term goals of our Canadian economy.

The documentary screening will be followed by a panel discussion including the film makers, and participants from UFCW Canada and Migrante Canada.
