European Tours

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- July 7, 2005 -- Virgin recording group The Explosion continue to blow up, cementing their status as one of the world's most exciting punk bands.

The Boston-based combo has been the sensation of this summer's star-studded Vans Warped Tour, stealing the stage with tracks from their critically acclaimed Virgin debut, "BLACK TAPE." "Though many in the procession of spiky-haired screamers were indiscernible from one another," wrote the Los Angeles Times, reviewing the trek's July 1st date at Cal State Long Beach, "standouts on the main stages included the aggressive, infectious anthems of Boston's The Explosion." The Explosion will continue with the annual tour through its July 17th stop in Denver (see attached itinerary).

"No Revolution," the latest single/video from "BLACK TAPE," is shaping up as the band's biggest hit to date. The video has been selected as Fuse's Daily Download for Wednesday, July 6th, while the network's interview with The Explosion -- conducted backstage during one of last week's Warped Tour stops in California -- will be broadcast in the coming weeks. The "No Revolution" video recently scored in Fuse's weekly Oven Fresh competition, beating out new clips from such superstars as U2, Kanye West, and the Chemical Brothers.

In other news, The Explosion was specifically requested to contribute a new song to Activision's just-released "Fantastic Four" video game. "I'm On Fire" -- described by the band as a tribute to the classic Sun Studios guitar sound -- serves as the theme song for the superhero quartet's Human Torch. Also contributing character-specific tracks are Taking Back Sunday, Jurassic 5, and Go Betty Go. The themes have been combined with game footage to create music-video-styled trailers, included as bonus content with the multiplatform game.

In addition, "Filthy Insane" -- one of the highlight tracks of "BLACK TAPE" -- has been featured on the soundtrack to Thrasher magazine's annual skateboarding DVD release, "King of the Road '05."

Long hailed as a truly pyrotechnic live outfit, The Explosion warmed up for their Warped trek with a series of UK dates, including three headline shows and an appearance at the renowned Download Festival at Donnington Park, sharing a bill that included such hard rock heroes as Black Sabbath, System Of A Down, Dinosaur Jr., and Motörhead.

On August 5th, The Explosion will head Down Under for their eagerly awaited first-ever Australian tour, making stops in Sydney, Adelaide, Melbourne, Newcastle, and Brisbane. The Oz dates will be followed by a series of European shows with Dropkick Murphys, with gigs slated for Belgium, France, and Germany.

Late August will see The Explosion performing at England's legendary Carling Weekend at Reading and Leeds, set for August 26th through 28th. The band will be lighting up the BBC Radio 1 Lock Up Stage -- at the personal invite of influential DJ (and longtime Explosion supporter) Mike Davies -- alongside Bad Religion, Hatebreed, Anti-Flag, Rise Against and others.

Formed in 1998 by singer Million Dollar Matt Hock and guitarist Dave Walsh, The Explosion has established a reputation as one of America's roughest, toughest punk outfits. In 2000, the band unleashed three independent releases -- their self-titled debut EP and "FLASH FLASH FLASH" album (both on the influential Jade Tree label), followed by "STEAL THIS," a five-tracks-in-nine-minutes EP. "FLASH FLASH FLASH" earned The Explosion a bounty of well-deserved critical acclaim, including acknowledgement as one of Spin's 20 Best Albums of 2000.

The furious fivesome -- whose roster also includes guitarist Chris Gonzalez, bassist Damian Genuardi, and drummer Andrew Black -- have been a relentless touring machine throughout their career, hitting the U.S. and Europe as both headline act as well as supporting such like-minded outfits as Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros, Sick Of It All, Avail, Social Distortion, Alkaline Trio, the Queers, Jets To Brazil, and Good Charlotte.

The band's Virgin debut, "BLACK TAPE," received across-the-board acclaim upon its October 2004 release. "The major-label debut from these Boston trad punks trucks in standard twentysomething complaints," declared Rolling Stone, "but they bury that stuff in huge oi! choruses and barnburning grooves propulsive enough to jar the misgivings out of a Clash fan's head." "The Explosion specialize in blasts of melodic punk as sharp and tight as a pair of drainpipe trousers," raved Revolver. "Though the band has been christened the latest conduit for the spirit of '77, its sound spans the eras, evoking the best of everyone from the Clash and Stiff Little Fingers to Hüsker Dü and the Distillers." Perhaps Blender said it best: "Now that's punk rock."
