Extension Healthcare Named 2015 Indiana Innovation Award Finalist

Patient Safety-Focused Company Is Recognized for Advanced Alarm Management Solutions

FORT WAYNE, IN--(Marketwired - July 20, 2015) - Extension Healthcare announced today that it has been named a finalist for the 5th Annual Indiana Innovation Awards presented by Centric, an Indianapolis-based organization that works to promote innovation in and around the state. The company's innovation, Extension Engage™, is a next generation alarm safety and event response platform used by more than 200 hospitals to help reduce alarm and nursing interruption fatigue.

The judging committee considers multiple factors when choosing award recipients including the problem the innovation solved, the new value created for the end user, and the quantifiable evidence of success.

In 2013, The Joint Commission issued a new NPSG to highlight the growing problem of alarm fatigue. Accredited hospitals are required to have an established alarm safety policy by January 1, 2016. Next generation middleware like Extension Engage unifies the multiple systems, devices, and mobile phones in a hospital on a single platform ensuring alarms, alerts, and text messages are prioritized, and presented and delivered in a standard format to users' phones.

According to Todd Plesko, CEO of Extension Healthcare, "Out of the box, our advanced rules engine and event response solutions help improve alarm safety and help hospitals satisfy Joint Commission compliance; beyond that, hospitals can -- and should -- exceed compliance by using Engage to manage alarms from regulated medical devices, alerts from other clinical systems like nurse call and CPOE (ordering) systems, and facilitate secure caregiver text messaging." He adds, "The hospitals that address all nursing interruptions, not just alarm-related interruptions, will achieve the best possible patient outcomes and HCAHPS scores."

Engage includes a powerful rules engine that enables hospitals to present event and patient context along with an alarm or alert -- taking full advantage of the data available in all of its systems to render a more useful notification. These combined rules and context are not available in other systems offered on the market today.

A multidisciplinary panel of judges will select winners from the finalists to be awarded at the Day of Innovation program in the fall.

Extension recently received the Health Tech Award at TechPoint's Mira Awards ceremony.
