Extra Space Storage Inc. Supports UnityFest in Moreno Valley, CA

MORENO VALLEY, CA--(Marketwire - August 30, 2010) -  On September 4, 2010, the Breakthrough Community Development Corporation along with co-sponsor Cross Word Christian Church is hosting UnityFest. The event will be held at Moreno Valley Community Park located at 13380 Frederick Street, Moreno Valley, CA 92553 and will begin with a backpack drive during which 1,500 free backpacks stuffed with school supplies will be given to local school-age children. Representatives from local colleges will talk with the children about the importance of staying in school and gaining an education.

Founder of Breakthrough Community Development Corporation Dr. Charles E. Gibson states, "Our goal is to increase awareness about the importance of education amongst our youth. We want to help them succeed and be agents of change for the future generation." Extra Space Storage of Moreno Valley will donate boxes to help transport educational supplies and will be a gold sponsor for the event. "We want to support events like these that make an impact on our local community. Children are the most valuable members of our society and we want to help promote education," stated Mark Stanke, Divisional Vice President for Extra Space Storage.

UnityFest is designed to bring people of different backgrounds together to celebrate cultural differences and embrace them through education, music, dance, poetry, and ethnic food. It will include free food from the various cultures including: African American, Hispanic, Asian and Caucasian food items. A special guest representing each culture will talk briefly about their history, their music, their food and their dance. In addition, reformed gang members will talk about being united instead of divided. The event will culminate with our keynote speaker, Mayor Bonnie Flickinger, who will summarize the festivities by acknowledging our differences, but emphasizing our likeness.

Erica Hopkins, Director of UnityFest, states, "The dollars saved by the generous donation from Extra Space Storage has helped us serve many more children. We appreciate the help provided by them."
