Extreme CCTV to Receive Patent for REG License Plate Capture Camera

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 8, 2005) -

Extreme Protecting Innovations Behind its Industry-Leading Technologies

Extreme CCTV International Inc., a division of Extreme CCTV Inc. (TSX:EXC), the global leader in active-infrared night vision surveillance equipment, today announced at the 12th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems in San Francisco that the innovation behind the REG® License Plate Capture camera has been allowed a utility patent. Originally applied for in 2002, the US patent will protect the functional features of the REG License Plate Capture camera.

The demand for effective, reliable license plate capture grows each year as more and more end-users in intelligent transport systems (ITS), law enforcement and security recognize the effectiveness of the technology. Transportation authorities use license plate data for traffic management in ITS applications, while law enforcement authorities have used license plate data as key evidence in several high-profile convictions. Security end-users store, match and reference license plate data on digital video recorders (DVR) and digital video management systems for proactive security and post-event analysis.

The resulting surveillance images integrate seamlessly with industry-standard DVRs, as well as with Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) intelligent software, which converts REG license plate images to alphanumeric data that can be analyzed, compared, matched and referenced. The system provides evidence matching vehicles to a targeted "hot-list" under any ambient light condition.

"License plates have become an invaluable source of data for important applications across the globe," says Jack Gin, President and CEO of Extreme CCTV. "We are very pleased that our innovative, industry-leading technology is going to be protected by a US Patent."

The ITS industry is estimated to be worth US$30 to US$40 billion globally, and includes toll collection, traffic violation enforcement, vehicle tracking, travel time analysis, public safety and Amber-Alert.
