Facial Plastic Surgery Seminar With OSU Plastic Surgeons

COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwire - Jun 18, 2012) - The Ohio State University Department of Plastic Surgery will host a cosmetic surgery educational seminar Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 5pm at their Easton office, which is located at 2 Easton Oval, Ste. 545, Columbus, OH 43219. During the seminar, Ohio plastic surgeons Anne Taylor, MD and Pankaj Tiwari, MD will discuss facial aesthetics and related procedures, which has become an increasingly important topic as the number of cosmetic enhancement procedures performed in the U.S. continues to grow.

As part of an ongoing series designed to educate an increasingly curious population about cosmetic plastic surgery, the goal of this seminar is to provide more information on facial cosmetic procedures including rhinoplasty, facelifts, and other related surgical and non-surgical treatments. Dr. Taylor says these seminars are open to anyone considering cosmetic surgery, that may still be uncertain about how to begin the process. While patient consultations can be very informative and can help those considering plastic surgery refine their aesthetic enhancement goals, Dr. Taylor says she realizes this decision alone is a significant step for many potential patients:

"While not absolutely necessary, the opportunity to attend a seminar has proved invaluable for many of our patients. Often, we have patients who had considered plastic surgery for a while, but really didn't know what the first step should be, or who to ask. Choosing a plastic surgeon and making the decision can seem very daunting, but we help the process along by introducing the basics of the procedures, and answering any questions the attendees may have in a group setting. It's not a substitute for a consultation, which is a one on one appointment with the plastic surgeon, where specific concerns and treatment options are discussed, but it is a great first step. So, if someone is curious about their options for cosmetic surgery, and whether it's right for them, this is a great place to start."

As patients enter the Ohio State plastic surgery practice, Dr. Tiwari says the patient consultation is essential to a safe and effective outcome. However, he agrees that this is often a daunting step in the process, adding that the seminars provide a less formal platform to support patients in the early stages of decision-making who may not be ready for a consultation:

"The cosmetic seminars are a way for a prospective patient to have some of the general questions answered, but without a financial commitment of any sort. Many times we have patients who are curious about cosmetic surgery, but are apprehensive about making an actual appointment. By attending one of our seminars, the person is able to have their questions answered, and make an educated decision based on what they've learned as to whether or not they would like to proceed with the process of scheduling a consultation. The seminars are geared toward specific topics, so someone can attend the seminar of their choice based on the topic, and not miss work for an appointment since our seminars are conveniently held during evening hours."

Regardless of whether a potential patient is considering a facelift procedure or BOTOX® Injections, both doctors stress the importance of patient education and the consultation process. When considering the experience and techniques required for an aesthetic treatment, both Drs. Taylor and Tiwari say consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon plays an integral role in achieving the desired aesthetic outcome that first inspired a patient to consider such a procedure.
