Fairfax County, VA; Iowa State & Utah State Labs Receive APHL Healthiest Laboratory Awards


SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwire - May 23, 2012) - The Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) presented Healthiest Laboratory Awards to the Fairfax County Health Department Laboratory (VA), State Hygienic Laboratory at the University of Iowa, and the Unified Utah State Laboratories: Public Health at its 2012 Annual Meeting and 6th Government Environmental Laboratory Conference, May 22, 2012, in Seattle, Washington. The Fairfax County and Iowa laboratories placed first and second respectively; the Utah laboratory received an honorable mention.

Healthiest Laboratory Awards recognize APHL member laboratories demonstrating outstanding efforts to reduce their collective environmental impact and to promote health and wellness programs. Winners are selected based on their score on a list of key indicators in the areas of safety, environmental process, environmental policy, employee health and wellness. The awards are sponsored by APHL Diamond Level Sustaining Member, HDR, an architectural firm with expertise in laboratory design.

The Association of Public Health Laboratories is a national nonprofit located in Silver Spring, MD, that is dedicated to working with members to strengthen governmental laboratories with a public health mandate.
