The Fairmont Palliser Signs on for 100 Per Cent Made-In-Alberta Wind Power With Bullfrog Power®

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 19, 2011) - Bullfrog Power, Canada's 100 per cent green electricity provider, today announced that The Fairmont Palliser is adding renewable energy to its sustainability plan, greening 307 MWh of electricity annually. Building on its current commitment to sustainability, the hotel is bullfrogpowering over 22,000 square feet of meeting and function space with 100 per cent made-in-Alberta wind power. Through the decision, The Fairmont Palliser is both reducing its environmental impact and supporting locally produced wind power.

"The Fairmont Palliser is committed to supporting environmental initiatives that help to reduce our environmental footprint," says Frédéric Paré, Director of Operations, The Fairmont Palliser. "We are proud to offer many sustainable alternatives to guests, colleagues and meeting planners and are pleased to include 100 per cent green electricity with Bullfrog Power as an important part of our sustainability plan."

In addition to choosing green electricity, The Fairmont Palliser has taken action to minimize its environmental impact in other areas of its operations. The hotel has introduced an employee Green Team, which helps organize and promote involvement in local environmental initiatives such as Calgary's Annual Elbow River Clean-up and the organization's Commuter Challenge. Paperless check-in and check-out services are available at the hotel and an Eco-Meet program that incorporates water conservation, energy efficiency and waste diversion is also in place to help ensure that meetings are as environmentally friendly as possible. The hotel also offers a guest towel and linen re-use program to further reduce energy and water use, and supports local farms by purchasing produce and meat from the province of Alberta.

Providing green power for The Fairmont Palliser will not require any special equipment or wiring. Bullfrog Power's generators inject renewable electricity onto the regional grid to match the amount of power used by the hotel's ballroom and other meeting and function spaces. In Alberta, Bullfrog's power comes exclusively from local wind power facilities that have been certified by Environment Canada under its EcoLogoM program. Across Canada, Bullfrog Power uses the collective demand of its customers to cause new renewable generation to be built.

"We are very pleased to welcome the Fairmont Palliser to the bullfrogpowered community," says Theresa Howland, V.P. Western Region, Bullfrog Power. "By choosing 100 per cent green electricity from Bullfrog, the hotel is helping to advance Alberta's growing renewable power industry and strengthening its reputation as one of Calgary's leading green hotels."
