Fallen Rock Productions Brings Award Winning Musical, RENT to Toronto's Bathurst Street Theatre

Annual theatrical production raises funds for kids with cancer

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 16, 2011) - Fallen Rock Productions in association with its title sponsor, Effort Trust, is bringing the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize–winning musical, RENT to Toronto's Bathurst Street Theatre. All proceeds from RENT will be donated to the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO), a charitable organization dedicated to helping children with cancer and their families across Ontario.

RENT is a rock musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson, based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La Bohème. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of AIDS.

RENT opens June 14 and runs through June 18 at the Bathurst Street Theatre in Toronto.

Artistic Director and Fallen Rock Co-Founder Jason Spetter has assembled some of the most talented and up-and-coming performers in the city. "Through its powerful rock score, RENT explores the lives of a community of young artists who choose to celebrate life while coping with disease and poverty," said Spetter.

This is Fallen Rock's 9th annual show. Since 2003, Fallen Rock has donated over $350,000 to various charitable causes through its theatrical productions. Previous Fallen Rock productions include "West Side Story", "Little Shop of Horrors," "Grease", "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", "Beauty and the Beast", "The Wizard of Oz" and last year's production, "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee."

"Despite its gritty setting, RENT offers a universal message of hope, love and survival – a message we hope to give to kids with cancer by donating profits from RENT to the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario," said Eric Weisz, executive producer and co-founder of Fallen Rock Productions.
