Family Day Kite Festival to Feature Largest Ship Ever Powered by a Kite in US Waters

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 13, 2007) -

What: KiteShip Corp., winner of two Guinness World records, will attempt a new record by deploying one of the largest and most innovative traction kites ever built, to power a 140-ton, 65-foot barge, the largest commercial vessel ever towed by a kite in US waters.

Why: KiteShip is conducting this experiment to monitor real-world savings and performance, in preparation for building a 13,000 sq ft traction kite in early 2008. As soon as this traction kite is launched, the pilot can throttle back to 70-80% power, reducing fuel usage and eliminating emissions by approximately 20-30%.

Where: San Francisco Bay, off the Marina Green in San Francisco

When: September 15, approximately 2:00 PM at the Second Annual Family Day Kite Festival, held on the Marina Green, the weekend of September 15 and 16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
