Farha Foundation launches #StickOutYourTongue social media contest!

Enter in our selfie contest to promote the fight against HIV/AIDS discrimination and encourage prevention

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - July 17, 2014) - The Farha Foundation, Quebec's leading HIV/AIDS fundraising organization, launches its social media contest entitled #StickOutYourTongue. This initiative is intended to mobilize our youth and their love of selfies (self-portraits) as a movement to end discrimination surrounding HIV/AIDS and encourage the use of condoms - the only effective prevention for the disease.

The contest begins on Saturday, July 19, 2014, International Stick Out Your Tongue Day, and ends on August 8. It will run on social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and will serve to stare down the virus by bringing together the community through the use of a selfie and the hashtag: #StickOutYourTongue. The winner will be selected randomly on Friday, August 8, 2014 at noon and will take home a camera.

"HIV/AIDS was detected over 30 years ago and significant medical advancements have helped victims live a more comfortable life. But there is still no cure and that's why we are putting a greater emphasis on prevention and on our future generation," said Linda Farha, volunteer president and spokesperson of the Farha Foundation.

As part of this new strategy, and to support the #StickOutYourTongue initiative, the Foundation has created a series of hip illustrations to encourage the youth to use condoms in hope that these images are shared and loved by Facebook, Twitter and Instagram followers.

"The #StickOutYourTongue contest was developed with the same goal in mind and we expect this initiative will be very successful and will create a buzz amongst our youth. They are our future and it is through education and encouraging the use of condoms that we will one day see an end to this terrible disease," continued Farha.

The Farha Foundation is Quebec's leading fundraising organization committed to helping men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS. The events organized by the Farha Foundation also serve to raise public awareness of the AIDS pandemic.

Since 1992, the Farha Foundation has distributed close to $9.3 million to 76 organizations throughout Quebec that provide services to HIV/AIDS victims (housing, medication, food, palliative care, homecare, etc.), as well as HIV/AIDS prevention and education programs. An advisory committee determines which organizations the Foundation supports and ensures that the funds are put to the best possible use.
