Farha Foundation Shares Messages of Hope for World AIDS Day

CA MARCHE 2014 Campaign Closes with Close to $200,000 raised for the Fight Against HIV/AIDS

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Dec. 1, 2014) - The Farha Foundation, Quebec's leading HIV/AIDS fundraising organization, brings the ÇA MARCHE 2014 campaign to a close, on World AIDS Day, by paying tribute to those that have been touched by this terrible disease. In recognition of World AIDS Day, today, December 1, 2014 at noon, the Farha Foundation is releasing a special message from founder Ron Farha over social media.

ÇA MARCHE is Quebec's largest AIDS walk and this year it raised $195,910 in support of over 20,000 men, women and children in Quebec affected by HIV/AIDS. Over 4,000 people joined the Foundation at Parc Émilie-Gamelin to lead the change and come together as a community in support of the search for a cure.

"For 22 years now, our donations have been instrumental in providing prevention and education programs, food, housing, medication, counselling and support to those who really need it across Quebec," said Linda Farha, spokesperson and honorary president, Farha Foundation. "ÇA MARCHE is an event meant for all - from an individual who has lost a loved one, to families and friends wishing to show their support. With every step we take, we are committed to serving our community until we can celebrate a cure!",

"To end the 22nd edition of ÇA MARCHE on World AIDS Day is always bittersweet, but to end it with a message of hope from my brother Ron, is a way to honour his legacy, those fighting against HIV/AIDS and the dream of a world free from this disease." continued Linda Farha. "Please visit us on Facebook or Twitter to read Ron's message of hope and share your own for World AIDS Day."

Cristina Rizzo of Rouge FM and Phil Vanden Brande of Virgin Radio emceed the opening ceremony, and Uvolution got the crowd energized with an invigorating warm-up routine. This was followed by a speech from Karine Boivin Roy and a few words from some the Farha family including, Linda Farha our spokesperson, Matt Ieraci, our youth ambassador and Evelyn Farha, Ron's Mother. Participants were entertained by Line, African, Bollywood and Belly dancers, and treated to savory delights from local food trucks, as well as, healthy snacks and refreshments along the seven-kilometer route through downtown Montreal.

The Farha Foundation would like to thank the sponsors whose contributions make ÇA MARCHE 2014 possible: our Gold Sponsors, Bristol-Myers Squibb Canada, CTV, Gilead Sciences Canada, Zenergy Communications, Rouge FM, Virgin Radio; our Silver Sponsor, AbbVie; and our Bonze Sponsors, Maisonneuve and Sebastien Roy Photographe. About ÇA MARCHE

ÇA MARCHE (camarche.ca), one of the first Farha Foundation events to emerge in 1993, is an annual walkathon of 7 kilometers, gathering thousands of people aiming at raising funds and sensitizing the population to the HIV/AIDS cause.

To maximize awareness of the event, the Farha Foundation asks you to spread the word to as many people as possible. In doing so, you will contribute directly to helping those living with HIV/AIDS, a disease that currently infects as many as two people a day in Quebec. Bring your family and friends to inspire our community to support the cause. Sign up now at camarche.ca.
