Farm Credit Canada: Knowledge is Power

GUELPH, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 7, 2006) - Farm Credit Canada: Developing business management skills is critical to experiencing greater success in agriculture, an industry brimming with innovation and advancement.

Farm Credit Canada (FCC) is delivering educational workshops and seminars through it's AgriSuccess program in Ontario this fall and winter. The communities holding these workshop and seminars are Alliston, Blackstock, Chatham, Guelph, London, Mitchell, New Liskeard, St. Jacobs, Stratford, Winchester and Woodstock.

Topics include transferring the family farm, estate planning, hiring and keeping employees, commodity marketing management, farm financial management focusing on statement and ratios, value chain management and a six day Advanced Farm Manager program.

The transfer of the family farm or business from one generation to the next is a difficult process. "The sooner there is a well-discussed game plan, the better," says Dr. John Fast. Dr. Fast is widely recognized as the guru of family business, as well as author and speaker. "As parents get older, they become more rigid in their thinking and less able to let go of their control. This affects the next generation's ability to plan their lives and their futures. This is why it's important that planning starts early. Sit down with your teenagers and talk about family values, the family business, and what being a part of the family business means."

"Knowledge is power," Lyndon Carlson, FCC Vice-President, Marketing and Product Development says. "We believe skill development and business management training are keys to greater success. That's why we do everything possible to help producers increase their knowledge."

FCC is Canada's largest provider of business and financial services to farms and agribusiness.
