SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwired - October 18, 2016) - Today Farsight Security, Inc., provider of the world's largest real-time DNS threat intelligence, announced that Farsight Security Chairman, CEO, and Co-founder, Dr. Paul Vixie, will deliver keynote at 2016 BSides Raleigh.
The event will take place Thursday, October 20, 2016 at the Wells Fargo IMAX Theatre at Marbles, 110 S. Person Street in Raleigh, North Carolina.
"BSides is old-school security collaboration, in the style of early-days Def Con," said Dr. Vixie. "I love the 1x1 interaction with practitioners from the trenches who are there, like me, for unending 'show & tell.'"
Security B-sides (BSides) is a community-driven framework for building events for and by information security community members. To purchase tickets for the event and get the complete program schedule, please visit here.
In his keynote presentation entitled, "Scaling Properties of Software and System Security," Dr. Vixie will discuss: "Humanity has been building and programming general purpose computers for about six decades now, with spectacular results, mostly good. As we contemplate the Internet of Things in light of our collective experience, there are some disturbing conclusions to be drawn. Can we as a species safely place our economy and culture into a global distributed network of computers, if those computers are programmed by humans using commodity programming languages and tools?" Dr. Paul Vixie, who is personally responsible for more CERT vulnerability notifications than any other living programmer, will share his thoughts on the likely results of Software as Usual as applied to 21st century society.
Dr. Paul Vixie, Internet Hall of Fame Inductee
In August 2016, Dr. Vixie won Dark Reading's Best of Black Hat Most Innovative Thought Leader Award, an award given to "an individual whose ideas have led to cutting-edge security technology and/or research, and can demonstrate new ways of thinking that have had impact on other organizations and professionals within the security industry."
In 2014, he was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame for work related to DNS. Dr. Vixie is a prolific author of open source Internet software including BIND, and of many Internet standards documents concerning DNS and DNSSEC. In addition, he founded the first anti-spam company (MAPS, 1996), the first non-profit Internet infrastructure software company (ISC, 1994), and the first neutral and commercial Internet exchange (PAIX, 1991). He earned his Ph.D. from Keio University for work related to DNS and DNSSEC in 2010.
