Fashion 4WRD: The Future of Fashion Revealed in Boston

MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge to Showcase the Fusion of Fashion, Design, Science and Technology at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

CAMBRIDGE, MA--(Marketwired - Aug 26, 2015) - The MIT Enterprise Forum of Cambridge (MITEF), in collaboration with Descience and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), will kick off its program season by exploring the intersection of technology and avant-garde fashion at Fashion 4WRD: Revealing Future of Design and Technology on Thursday, September 17 at the MFA.

"Our region is where U.S. textile manufacturing got started and we're still home to the world's most creative minds in engineering and design," said Katja Wald of MITEF Cambridge. "This event will explore the possibilities for the next revolution in fashion technology in Boston and beyond."

Curated by Descience, the program will begin with a world class panel discussion featuring Suzanne Lee, Creative Director, Modern Meadow; Chris Wawrousek, Lead Designer, New Balance Innovation Studio; Dennis Baldwin, CEO and Founder of Breakaway; and Dr. Amanda Parkes, Fashion Technologist and Chief of Technology and Research for Manufacture New York.

After the panel discussion, guests are invited to explore the Future Lab, featuring cutting edge technologies from BioLogic, Design Museum Boston, Danger!Awesome, Ministry of Supply, Modeling Fashion, Nervous System and Open Style Lab. Guests can meet and mingle with the speakers and members of MITEF, Descience and the MFA Fashion Council.

"Creativity and connections can inspire new ways of thinking, whether you're working with a microscope, microchip or microfibers," said Yuly Fuentes-Medel, Executive Director of Descience. "Fashion 4WRD will showcase what can happen when these creative worlds collide."

Fashion 4WRD will also feature an introduction to the upcoming MFA exhibition #techstyle (March 6-July 10, 2016), which will examine the synergy between contemporary fashion and technology. The exhibition includes selections from Alexander McQueen's Plato's Atlantis collection, an Iris Van Herpen 3D-printed dress produced in conjunction with MIT assistant professor and Descience advisor Neri Oxman, and special commissions from design houses such as CuteCircuit, The Unseen, Hussein Chalayan, and Somerville-based Nervous System.

"We are very excited to be co-hosting Fashion 4wrd as it is the first of many MFA programs in the coming year celebrating Boston's place in the world of fashionable technology, culminating in the opening of our exhibition, #techstyle," said Michelle Finamore, Penny Vinik Curator of Fashion Arts at the MFA.
