FASHION Presents Fashion in Film

First ever series by CIFF explores impact of fashion

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Sept. 11, 2008) - Since its inception nine years ago, the Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF) sets the city abuzz each September. This year, Calgary gets a dose of style as CIFF debuts the Fashion in Film series, with the support of FASHION Magazine as the proud official magazine sponsor.

The Fashion in Film series, the first of the Life in Focus lineup by CIFF, explores the art and cultural impact of fashion, while providing audiences with a premium cinematic experience. The series is complimented by a host of fashionable happenings from red carpet galas to fashion shows and more. FASHION Magazine's local correspondents will be on the scene, reporting on the CIFF scoop at www.fashionmagazine.com.

"Calgary is enjoying a seemingly endless boom, which is translating to a population that is hungry for culture, great films and of course, fashion. The Fashion in Film series is a perfect fit for FASHION Magazine as we grow our roots in Calgary and we're sure it will be well-received by Calgarians," said Ceri Marsh, Editor-in-Chief.

Fashion in Film Series

Breakfast at Tiffany's

Long before Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw graced the small or big screen, Audrey Hepburn brought Truman Capote's iconic New York socialite Holly Golightly to life.

Eleven Minutes, Alberta Premiere

It's been two long years since the sharp-witted Jay McCarroll was dubbed "the next great American designer" on the first season of Project Runway. This feature-length documentary chronicles his year-long journey preparing his first independent runway show for New York's Fashion Week and the subsequent marketing of his line.

Gloss: The Director's Cut, Canadian Premiere

Andrei Konchalovsky's (Sibiriade) Gloss is a hilariously absurdist and satirical fairytale set in modern Russia, where unbridled capitalism has created a seedy, decadent lifestyle for Moscow's nouveau riche.

Useless, Wuyong, Alberta Premiere

Minimalist Chinese director Jia Zhang-ke (Still Life, Unknown Pleasures) takes his static, meditative camerawork through the industrial spectrum of clothing manufacturing and design in China in his quiet and puzzling documentary. Named for the defiant, austere brand by designer Ma Ke featured at Paris Fashion Week, "Useless" represents a bold statement on the disposability of clothing in an age of mass-production and loss of craftsmanship.
