FasterCures Launches Consortia-pedia Catalogue, Details Profiles of More Than 400 Research and Development Partnerships

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - October 15, 2015) - Today, FasterCures, a center of the Milken Institute, released the Consortia-pedia Catalogue, a searchable, online resource featuring in-depth profiles of more than 400 medical research consortia from around the globe. Triggered by the need for broad-based partnerships to address shared scientific, regulatory and reimbursement challenges, the emergence of biomedical research consortia has been rapid and yet difficult to map. For the first time, users can search the Consortia-pedia Catalogue for information about the mission, structure, partners, financing models and data sharing practices of each of the more than 400 consortia profiled -- as well as connect with them directly.

"This new tool represents an advancement in creating linkages between global initiatives attempting to solve challenging problems that influence medical product development," said ShaAvhrée Buckman-Garner, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Office of Translational Sciences at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "It is an important step to help support data sharing, collaboration and leveraging of efficiencies."

The information contained in the catalogue was collected from publicly available sources, and inclusion is based on the criteria developed with input from a diverse group of experts on the frontlines of innovation and collaboration.

"Since day one, FasterCures has worked to advance effective models of collaboration as a means of improving and accelerating biomedical research," said FasterCures Executive Director Margaret Anderson. "The model of research-by-consortia is at the heart of this effort. We created this tool to help potential partners find one another and to gain a better sense of how these non-traditional collaborations are achieving shared R&D goals."

Free and available to the public, this tool is the latest addition to FasterCures' ongoing Consortia-pedia program, which is focused on understanding the emerging model of collaboration-by-consortium and its impact on medical research and development.
