Favorable Kaolin Test Results Spur Drill Program

Permitting Underway for a Drill Program; Program Designed to Define Clay Resource to Support Production of Kaolin Products

VANCOUVER, BC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 2, 2006 -- i-minerals inc. (TSX-V: IMA) has received additional positive results from Ginn Mineral Technology, Inc. ("GMT") of Sandersville, Georgia regarding GMT's analyses of i-minerals' Bovill Clays. Based upon these favorable test results, i-minerals is currently permitting a drill program, completion of which, will result in one of the most thorough testing of clay deposits undertaken on the Helmer-Bovill property to date.

Recent work completed by GMT has been directed towards clay development for use in a variety of industries and included the development of a processing profile for the Bovill clays. As noted in the company's press release of March 21, 2006, the initial processing of the clays yielded Tappi brightnesses that range from 70.3% to as high as 91%. GMT noted that some clays only require simple processing to make a product for use in several industries.

GMT stated that the high concentration of kaolin should make the clays amenable to being processed in the dry state. Utilizing a dry process would generate significant capital and operating costs savings as compared with conventional "wet processing." Research completed to date covering the markets targeted indicates significant costs associated with the transportation of similar products from the southeastern United States. Management is increasingly confident there is a significant market opportunity for its clay products within the Western and Midwestern markets the company is targeting. GMT has prepared samples of the clay products that will be sent to prospective customers for their internal testing to help firm their interest in i-minerals products.

Given this attractive opportunity, management has elected to define a clay resource in parallel with the ongoing development of Kelly's Basin feldspar - quartz deposit. The initial drill program is designed to include up to 50 core holes and is anticipated to be of sufficiently tight drill-hole spacing to define an indicated mineral resource. Drilling is anticipated to commence once ground conditions are suitable to support the movement of heavy equipment.

"These most recent results clearly indicate that a large portion of the Company's Bovill clays are amenable to lower cost processing techniques, which when coupled with our transportation advantages into the western and other geographically favorable markets, creates another significant business opportunity," stated Roger Kauffman, President and CEO of i-minerals inc.

A. Lamar Long, CPG, is the Qualified Person ("QP") for the Helmer-Bovill project under NI 43-101. He oversees the quality control and quality assurance program and the construction of all samples for metallurgical analysis and reviews all analytical results prior to public release.
