LONDON, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - Jan. 18, 2011) - Black and minority ethnic members of the Fire Brigades Union will be an official London Fire Brigade 'guard of honour' today at a ceremony commemorating the 30th anniversary of the tragic New Cross Fire, which claimed the lives of 14 young black people.

A blue commemorative plaque will be unveiled at 2pm, exactly 30 years to the day of the tragic fire which occurred at a birthday party in the early hours of Sunday 18th January, 1981.

Michael Nicholas, FBU executive council member for Black & Ethnic Minority Members (B&EMM) said: "Our black members are proud to attend in commemoration of this tragic event, which had a terrible impact on the victim's families, friends and indeed the whole community. This impact is still with us today and they will never be forgotten."
