FCC Drive Away Hunger collects over 1.4 million pounds of food and $760,000

REGINA, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwire - Oct. 26, 2012) - Farm Credit Canada (FCC) has concluded its most successful Drive Away Hunger program to date, with more than 1.4 million pounds of food and $760,000 raised for food banks nationwide. The support of a record number of partners (393), schools (307), as well as hundreds of volunteers and thousands of generous Canadians were critical to the program's success.

All 100 FCC offices across Canada collected food and cash donations throughout the duration of the campaign. As part of these efforts, tractor tours took place in Alberta, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and at FCC's corporate office in Regina.

"I'm very proud of the great success we've achieved this year, and I thank the many partners, FCC employees, customers, and the agriculture and agri-food community across Canada for their ongoing support for Drive Away Hunger," says FCC President and CEO Greg Stewart. "Through our shared commitment and dedication, we've come together to help fight hunger, which is a real and pressing need for almost a million Canadians not just today, but every day."

In conjunction with Drive Away Hunger, FCC donated $50,000 to Food Banks Canada. Half of this amount will be dedicated to the Rural Support Program, which provides additional support and resources to food banks based in rural communities. The remaining $25,000 will be used by Food Banks Canada to support individuals and families who use food bank services.

"The FCC Drive Away Hunger program not only provides support at the national, provincial and local level, but it also enables communities to come together. We are proud to partner with FCC through the Drive Away Hunger campaign."

As a Platinum partner, BDO, a national accounting and financial advisory firm, has once again collected food for the Drive Away Hunger program. BDO has raised 651,804 pounds of food and $185,841 since 2008.

"Our offices across the country enthusiastically proved their commitment to their local communities, hosting numerous events to raise money and food donations for hungry Canadians. Ultimately, we surpassed our 2012 goal and raised a total of $185,841 and 79,909 pounds of food over the last four weeks."

Cargill Limited, Parrish and Heimbecker Limited (New Life Mills) and Windset Farms™ were also on board as National partners, playing an important role across Canada in collecting donations and helping FCC achieve its goal.

FCC Drive Away Hunger began in 2004 when an employee in Ontario organized a local tractor tour. He collected food donations from his local community as a way to give back and help food banks serve people in need. Since then, over 9.2 million pounds of food and $760,000 have been collected*. "FCC Drive Away Hunger has grown dramatically since it first started and I'm really touched by the amount of support shown to the cause by communities across the country," says Stewart. "But our work doesn't end here. I encourage everyone involved to continue to support food banks all year long."
