Qnexa combines a low dose of stimulant phentermine with epilepsy drug topiramate, and is recommended as part of an overall weight loss plan that includes diet and exercise. Phase 3 studies showed obese patients to have an average weight loss of 14.7% over 56 weeks. Significant improvement was also seen in related co-morbid conditions of blood pressure, lipid levels, and type 2 diabetes. The most common adverse side effects were dry mouth, tingling, headache, upper respiratory tract infection, and constipation.
