NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - June 25, 2009) - TalkPoint, the leading provider of Webcasting and Internet Broadcasting, and, the leading webcast and DVD source for FDA Advisory Committee Meetings, today announced that TalkPoint will be powering the two-day FDA committee meeting scheduled for June 29th and June 30th.

The topic of discussion is how to address the public health risk of liver damage related to the use of acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is a pain and fever reducer and is one of the most commonly used drugs in the United States. It is found in many common over-the-counter drugs, such as Tylenol and Excedrin, as well as prescription products, such as Vicodin and Percocet. When used according to the directions on the OTC and Rx labels, the drug is considered safe. According to the FDA website, "In a study that combined data from 22 specialty medical centers in the United States, acetaminophen-related liver injury was the leading cause of acute liver failure for the years 1998 through 2003."

The FDA has taken many steps to address the issue over the past decade, including requiring all OTC acetaminophen products to include an alcohol warning label in 1998, and a public education campaign to help consumers use acetaminophen more safely in 2004. Most recently, in 2007, the FDA convened a multidisciplinary group to consider possible further action to reduce the cases of liver injury from acetaminophen use. The group's recommendations are to be presented for public discussion in this FDA meeting before implementing any of the options.

FDA Advisory Committee will be broadcasting the event live, powered by TalkPoint technology, on June 29th and 30th, beginning at 8 am ET. Visit to view the webcast.
