FDAAdvisoryCommittee.com to Webcast the FDA Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee (ODAC) Meeting, October 5th, via TalkPoint

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - October 1, 2009) - TalkPoint, the leading provider of Webcasting and Internet Broadcasting, and FDAAdvisoryCommittee.com, the leading webcast and DVD source for FDA Advisory Committee Meetings, today announced that TalkPoint will be powering the FDA ODAC meeting scheduled for October 5th.

The FDA Advisory Committee will discuss pazopanib (brand name Votrient) tablets, manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline. The proposed use of this drug is for the treatment of patients with advanced renal cell carcinoma, a form of kidney cancer. The discussion will include pazopanib's potential risk of severe liver injury, and whether the benefits of the drug outweigh the risk. Sutent, manufactured by Pfizer, Inc, and Nexavar, manufactured by Bayer AG & Onyx Pharmaceuticals Inc, are similar drugs that have been approved by the FDA to slow the progression of renal cell carcinoma. These drugs are from the same family as pazopanib. The approval of pazopanib is scheduled to be decided by October 19th.

Also on the agenda for this day is the discussion of a new application for the drug PEG-Intron, manufactured by Schering Corp and currently used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. The committee will discuss the proposed use for this drug in the treatment of melanoma. Melanoma is primarily treated with surgery, and PEG-Intron, if approved, would be used as treatment in addition to surgery.

"FDAAdvisoryCommittee.com provides the public online access to these meetings," said Nick Balletta, CEO of TalkPoint. "Due to the public interest in this meeting, we are expecting a large online audience."

FDA Advisory Committee will be broadcasting the event live, powered by TalkPoint technology, on October 5th beginning at 8 am ET. Visit FDAAC.com to view the webcast.
