February Housing Starts Up in Windsor

WINDSOR, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 8, 2012) - New home starts were up in February in the Windsor Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) according to preliminary data released today by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Builders laid foundations for 34 homes compared to 13 in February 2011.

"The higher number of starts in 2012 year-to-date versus 2011 is primarily due to an increase in single-detached construction," said Paul Tessaro, Market Analyst for CMHC. "This is different than the trend observed in 2011, when the higher number of starts versus 2010 was due to more starts of townhomes."

February starts in the Windsor area included 24 single-detached homes, four semi-detached homes and six townhomes.

As Canada's national housing agency, CMHC draws on more than 65 years of experience to help Canadians access a variety of quality, environmentally sustainable and affordable Housing solutions.
