Federal Building at 255 Albert Street Closed Until Further Notice

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 10, 2008) - Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) wishes to advise the media and general public that the Kent Square Building located at 255 Albert Street has been closed due to a power outage that occurred this morning at approximately 8:15 a.m.

All federal occupants have been evacuated and advised to call their employee hotline for updated information.

GWL Realty Advisors, the building owner, reported that the main electrical system for the building has been damaged. The cause and full extent of the damage and required repairs have not yet been determined. It is expected that the building will remain closed until at least Monday morning, September 15. An advisory will be issued as soon as it is known when employees can return to work.

This leased property provides accommodation to approximately 722 employees of several federal organizations, including Transport Canada, Industry Canada, Treasury Board Secretariat, Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, House of Commons, Public Service Agency of Canada, Indian Residential School Resolution Canada.
