Federal Funds Help Modernize Kamloops' Pavilion Theatre

Member of Parliament Cathy McLeod announces support for arts and culture in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwired - April 23, 2015) - Department of Canadian Heritage

The Government of Canada has provided $60,000 in funding to the Western Canada Theatre Society through the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.

Cathy McLeod, Member of Parliament (Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo), announced this support today on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

The funding will enable the Pavilion Theatre to renovate and upgrade the 165-seat black box theatre, which also doubles as a rehearsal hall and is the only fully equipped professional theatre in the region. This project will directly benefit local and touring arts organizations by creating a more comfortable and safe working site.

Quick Facts

  • The Western Canada Theatre Society, officially incorporated in 1975, manages and maintains both the Pavilion Theatre and the Sagebrush, a 700-seat proscenium theatre in Kamloops.
  • This investment will enable the Western Canada Theatre Society to purchase and install a new HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) system for the performance space and the lobby.
  • The Canada Cultural Spaces Fund seeks to improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and arts presentation or exhibition. It is also designed to increase access for Canadians to performing arts, visual arts, media arts, museum collections and heritage displays.
