Federal Government Lends Financial Support to 2013 Montreal Championship, a Leg of the PGA Champions Tour

MONTRÉAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Sept. 5, 2013) - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of Infrastructure, Communities and Intergovernmental Affairs and Minister of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec, today announced that the Legends of Golf Foundation has been granted funding for the promotion on external markets of the 2013 Montréal Championship, an official event on the PGA Champions Tour.

"By funding the Montréal Championship, our government is demonstrating that tourism is at the very heart of the strategy we have put in place to foster economic growth," said Minister Lebel.

The Montréal Championship takes place this year from September 2 to 8 at the Club de golf de La Vallée du Richelieu's prestigious Rouville course in Sainte-Julie and features the world's premier golfers and former golf masters. This is Montréal's fourth time hosting the top-calibre event, the only tournament on the PGA Champions Tour to be held in Canada. With the popularity of professional golf on a steady rise, the Championship is expected to draw a large number of tourists and enjoy wide media coverage, which will in turn help showcase the city, its hospitality and its attractions.

To promote the 2013 Montréal Championship around the world, the Legends of Golf Foundation enlisted the services of the American cable television network's the Golf Channel, which will be broadcasting the tournament live, and conducted a prior advertising campaign on external markets, notably in the United States. The organization also put a strategy in place to improve hospitality services for visitors and participants.
