Federal Health Minister Will Kick Off the National Health Leadership Conference

OTTAWA, ON--(Marketwired - April 06, 2016) - The Honourable Jane Philpott, Federal Minister of Health, has confirmed her attendance of the National Health Leadership Conference (NHLC) on June 6th in Ottawa. Minister Philpott will deliver opening remarks at the beginning of the two-day conference.

"We are delighted to have the Minister open our conference. This year's conference will focus greatly on change and innovation -- two areas where Minister Philpott will play a pivotal role. She will no doubt find a receptive crowd of health leaders willing to work towards creating sustained and effective health system improvement," said Bill Tholl, President and CEO of HealthCareCAN and co-host of NHLC.

NHLC is the largest national gathering of health leaders in Canada. On June 6 and 7, more than 700 health leaders will converge in the nation's capital to debate and share strategies and solutions to the most pressing health system challenges. This year's theme is Pathways to innovation and change.

"Leadership plays an essential role in ensuring effective healthcare transformation and championing change. We are calling upon our health leaders to work together like never before to put Canada's healthcare system performance back on top," said Ray Racette, President and CEO of the Canadian College of Health Leaders and co-host of NHLC.

Other confirmed speakers include Dr. Helen Bevan, Chief Transformation Officer for the National Health Service in UK, Dr. Danielle Martin, Vice-president, Medical Affairs and Health System Solutions at Women's College Hospital, Sharon Nettleton, founding members of Patients for Patient Safety Canada, Chris Power, CEO of the Canadian Patient Safety Institute and Jeremy Gutsche, Chief Trend Hunter & CEO, Trend Hunter Inc.

Building on last year's success, the conference will feature the second edition of the Great Canadian Healthcare Debate, a new policy forum where health leaders debate and advance policy resolutions that would make a significant impact and improvement to the system. The Globe and Mail national affairs columnist, Jeffrey Simpson, will once again moderate the debate.

NHLC will be held at the Westin Hotel in Ottawa. Click on www.nhlc-cnls.ca for more information.
