Federal, Provincial and Municipal Funding for New Nipawin Water Treatment Plant

NIPAWIN, SASKATCHEWAN--(Marketwired - June 13, 2016) - The Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Jim Reiter, Minister of Government Relations, and His Worship David Trann, Mayor of Nipawin, today announced funding for a new water treatment plant in Nipawin.

The new plant will improve the taste of the Town's water while reducing the level of minerals, eliminating the need for residents and local businesses to have private water softening systems. This project also includes the installation of new distribution pumps and emergency power generation equipment to ensure a reliable supply of water during power outages.

Not only will the new water treatment facility provide clean and safe drinking water for the Nipawin residents of today, it will have the capacity to meet the projected population growth for this community well into the future.

The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are each contributing up to $6,800,000 toward this project through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component - National and Regional Projects (PTIC-NRP), with the Town of Nipawin covering the remainder of the estimated $20,800,000 total project cost.
