FEI Canada Announces 2011 Frank S. Capon Distinguished Service Award Winners

Pierre Matuszewski and Victor Wells Named FEI Canada Top Volunteers

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 13, 2011) - Financial Executives International Canada (FEI Canada), the professional membership association for senior financial executives, is pleased to announce that Pierre Matuszewski, MBA, and Victor Wells, FCA, ICD.D, are the recipients of the 2011 Frank S. Capon Distinguished Service Award.

"FEI Canada is pleased to thank all of its many volunteers on National Volunteers Week and, in particular, we are pleased to honour Pierre Matuszewski and Victor Wells as this year's Capon Award winners. These two outstanding individuals have made extraordinary contributions to the growth of our organization," said Michael Conway, chief executive and national president, FEI Canada. "FEI Canada is grateful to both Victor and Pierre for their long term and ongoing dedication and commitment to our organization and their profession at large. Pierre's efforts forged stronger ties among FEI Canada's chapters, as well as improving relations between the U.S. organization and our national office," Mr. Conway said. "Victor brings knowledge, dedication and contagious enthusiasm to the many FEI Canada portfolios with which he has been involved, including the Committee on Corporate Reporting and the Canadian Financial Executives Research Foundation." Both award winners also contributed significantly to the development of their respective local chapters, he said.

Mr. Matuszewski, a member of FEI Canada's Quebec Chapter, is Chief Executive Officer, Société Générale (Canada). He became the first Canadian to be appointed Country Head of Société Générale in Canada in 2009. Mr. Matuszewski has a long track record with Société Générale. Initially, he was the Head of Mergers and Acquisitions and then Head of Corporate and Investment Banking Operations for the bank's Canadian branch. Over his 30-year career, Mr. Matuszewski has been involved in a large number of domestic and cross-border equity and debt transactions as well as mergers, acquisitions and financial advisory transactions, with Société Générale and other leading Canadian investment banks.

Mr. Matuszewski is also deeply involved in Montreal's arts community. He was a member of the theatre Espace Go's Executive Committee (1990-1999), a member of the orchestra I Musici de Montreal's Executive Committee (1996-1998) and the President of the Montreal University Club (2004-2006). In 2010 he accepted an invitation to be the president of Arion Baroque Orchestra's Fundraising Committee and he is now President of Arion's Board of Directors. Pierre Matuszewski holds an MBA from McGill University as well as a BA (Honours) in Economics from Laval University.

As national Chair of FEI Canada, Mr. Matuszewski initiated significant changes in FEI Canada's mission and organization and he supervised the transition to a new CEO in 2000. He also upgraded and harmonized relations with the FEI US organization, and supervised the launch of the FEI Canada website. Members have remarked on how Mr. Matuszewski appears to be a born leader with great charisma. As president of the Quebec chapter, Mr. Matuszewski assembled a great team of volunteers and achieved great success in membership retention, and gain higher visibility for the chapter.

Mr. Wells, a member of FEI Canada's Southern Golden Horseshoe Chapter, is a veteran business leader and now serves on boards of Canadian public companies, with an emphasis on audit committees. He has experience in a wide scope of industries, including transportation, health care, investment property and mining. He has expertise in corporate governance, strategic bottom-line management and assessing the balance between risk and reward in complex corporate finance strategies. Boards Mr. Wells serves or has served on include: MagIndustries; Student Transportation Inc.; GT Canada Medical Properties Inc.; Northstar Healthcare Inc.; TriNorth Capital Inc. and Canada Cartage Income Fund.

As a financial executive, Mr. Wells served as VP Finance and CFO at a range of companies, including: Chemtrade Logistics; Tahera Diamond Corp; Anvil Range Mining Corp. He served as VP Finance at TVX Gold Inc. and VP, Controller at Abitibi-Price Inc. Most recently, he served as interim CFO of Titanium Inc. He is a graduate of Ryerson's Business Administration program, and holds the FCA and ICD.D designations.

At FEI Canada, Mr. Wells was nominated as chair of CFERF in 2010 and has been a trustee since 2008. A tireless promoter of the research institute, he has been instrumental in developing and launching the corporate donations program. Mr. Wells was also Chair of the Committee on Corporate Reporting (CCR) from 2008 until last year, and has been a CCR member since 2002. He took leadership of FEI Canada on an interim basis in 2007 and managed the operation successfully until a new chief executive was appointed. As chair of CCR, he expanded the reach of the committee from 25 to 44 members, and ensured a successor to replace him. He also led the Southern Golden Horseshoe Chapter to a record level of membership and engagement. Fellow members have said Mr. Wells' knowledge of and devotion to FEI Canada is unparalleled. He is a hard worker who knows how to surround himself with qualified and enthusiastic colleagues. He is described as a humble, yet inspiring leader who is known for his integrity and honesty.

Mr. Matuszewski and Mr. Wells will be recognized for their long standing contributions to FEI Canada and the financial community at large, at FEI Canada's Annual Conference, which will be held in Ottawa from June 8-10, 2011. This award honours Mr. Frank Capon, who was an outstanding FEI Canada member for 57 years, and is credited with bringing FEI to Canada in 1948.
