Shaw Communications is proud to announce the wrap-up of its second ever Fill the Food Banks Campaign, a national initiative to help raise awareness and donations for food banks across the country.

Together Shaw employees, customers and members of the community donated 1.2 million pounds of food and more than $630,000 to food banks between Victoria and St. John's. They also supported more than 300 local events and volunteered nearly 10,000 hours of their time.

Each month nearly 900,000 Canadians rely on food banks - and thanks to the campaign over 100 food banks from coast to coast have seen their shelves stocked with necessary supplies for those in need.

"All across the country, we've been inspired by the people who have gone to extraordinary lengths to help others in need," said Brad Shaw, Chief Executive Officer, Shaw Communications Inc. "Whether sleeping out overnight in a public park for pledges, building structures out of food or bringing in thousands of pounds of food individually, we've been amazed by the work of our employees to raise donations for food banks across Canada."

Shaw is proud to have partnered with Campbell Canada, Food Banks Canada and shipping partner Purolator to help stock shelves of food banks across the country.

"Most people think of the food banks around holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas - but for the nearly one million Canadians who rely on food bank support every month, the need is year round," said Katharine Schmidt, Executive Director of Food Banks Canada. "We're proud to have supported Shaw's Fill the Food Banks campaign at a time when Canadians may need it the most."

This year Canadians had more ways than ever to help fill the food banks. More than 300,000 Canadians watched Shaw's Fill the Food Banks video - resulting in a $250,000 donation from Shaw and 250,000 pounds of food from Campbell Canada. Shaw wrapped up the 2012 Fill the Food Banks campaign during Hunger Awareness Week, which ran from May 7 - 11, 2012.

"We're inspired to partner with Shaw again this year to help raise hunger awareness and donations for food banks across Canada," said Philip Donne, President, Campbell Company of Canada. "We hope that the Together is Amazing program continues to encourage more organizations and individuals to come together to get involved and help address important issues such as hunger."
