BROOKLYN, NY and CINCINNATI, OH--(Marketwire - Oct 10, 2012) - Off Track Planet, a popular brand in millennial-generation travel, today launches a new discovery and trip-planning platform to bring obsolete guidebooks into the mobile era.

The new Off Track Planet is a crowd-sourced and curated platform that is part travel magazine, part marketplace, allowing people to use their mobile phones to customize travel guides, share them with others and make purchases from anywhere in the world. Click here for a demo video.

Off Track Planet Founder and CEO Freddie Pikovsky, who also founded DUMBO Startup Lab in Brooklyn, believes it's time to give "young, sexy and broke" independent travelers -- the fastest-growing segment of the online travel industry at $108 billion a year -- a relevant, beautiful, fully mobile tool to use in planning and executing their trips around the world.

"In order to change the world, we must see the world first," Pikovsky said of his generation. "The new Off Track Planet makes it easier to explore, plan, share, and experience the world in a way that makes sense to us."

This platform will give users the ability not only to create custom guides for their own use but share information about places they love. Top users, curated by the community, will be rewarded with free trips and cool prizes.

Off Track Planet graduated from the Cincinnati-based consumer marketing accelerator The Brandery last week. Blair Garrou, managing director of DFJ Mercury, introduced Off Track Planet to 400+ attendees at the Brandery Demo Day, saying that "Off Track Planet is not for the 80 million baby boomers but for the 80 million millennials."

Since launching as an edgy online travel magazine in 2009, OTP has grown online and in print and now has 2.4 million online visitors worldwide. It recently inked its first major international book deal with Running Press, set for a spring 2013 release. Off Track Planet also self-published a quarterly magazine that was picked up and distributed by Barnes & Noble at more than 300 locations across the U.S. but stopped producing the magazine to focus on becoming the definitive mobile solution for the millennial traveler.

Off Track Planet was conceived in a Brooklyn hostel in 2009 after CEO Freddie Pikovsky returned from a life-changing trip abroad. He wanted to inspire others to travel but realized there was a disconnect from the resources available for his generation. Travel guide books were outdated, and the Internet was a scattered resource. He enlisted Anna Starostinetskaya, a friend and writer, to help him craft an edgy brand that would resonate with independent travelers, eventually integrating the brand with the technology necessary to create a 'living' travel guide. They have since recruited more than 200 contributors.
