MURFREESBORO, TN--(Marketwired - Jun 3, 2014) - Larry D. Roby, founder and president of Senior Financial Advisors, Inc. (www.sfabridge.com), recently earned his Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP) designation, becoming one of only about 500 financial advisors in the nation with the new certification.
"I want my clients to enjoy their retirement in peace -- that's very personal for me," Roby says. "So when I learned that American College had created this new program, I signed up. It has been a lot of work; the three courses are advanced level and take 50 to 60 hours each to complete. But we owe it to our clients to have all the knowledge necessary to give them guidance they can trust."
The American College of Financial Services launched the program more than two years ago in response to the heightened demand for retirement planning created by baby boomers.
"About 500 graduates now hold the designation and between 2,000 and 3,000 advisors are currently enrolled in the courses," says Eric Steif, a professional education counselor at the college.
The 87-year-old American College is a non-profit educational institution with the highest level of academic accreditation. It's dedicated to leadership in innovative training and development for financial services professionals.
"The American College created the RICP to prepare financial advisers to help customers make sure their nest eggs last and have greater peace of mind during a retirement that could be decades long," says Dave Littell, the school's Retirement Income Program Director.
"It focuses on topics like how to convert your savings into steady retirement income, choosing when to claim Social Security and company retirement benefits, addressing health and long-term care and more."
Roby's firm focuses solely on seniors and uses various tools, such as managed money, annuities, life insurance, estate planning, Social Security maximization, Medicare and long-term care insurance.
"We continuously educate our clients," Roby says. "We believe that educated consumers make better decisions, and now we're armed with even more information."
